BRANDON, FL — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said that a household (the entire family and their puppy) escaped a house fire at Brandon, Florida Saturday morning.

Flames erupted from the front windows of a home in the 1900 block of Derbywood Dr., at around 11:40 a.m., investigators said.

According to fire officials, a candle dropped and lit some papers on fire, which is what caused the fire. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire using a garden hose before firefighters arrived and took over. They were able to put the fire and rescue the family’s puppy as well.

Officials said the fire was under control in less than 10 minutes. Everyone is ok and recovering well!
